Just Roughin’ It is locally owned and operated by an Arizona native and an upstate New York transplant. It was conceived in 2006 by Ray and Debbie Hendricks from the crazy idea that owning and operating a guide service would be a great idea. Well, turns out, it was. And after 12 years of guiding a several thousand people on backpacking trips in Grand Canyon, Havasupai, Superstition Wilderness, Paria Canyon, Yosemite and Olympic National Park, we decided starting a brick and click (physical retail location that also sells online) would also be a great idea. So far, so good. So while we no longer offer full service guided trips (be sure to check out our DIY trips), we can still share our knowledge of the outdoors with you – and sell you stuff. Having a location that serves the local community of metro Phoenix is super cool and getting people out to appreciate all the outdoor recreation Arizona, and the rest of the world, has to offer (and there is A LOT) is even super cooler. We know the outdoors so we can make sure you have the best of what you need when you are out in the middle of somewhere.

We have spent days on the trail with all levels of hiker – from beginner to expert. This means we are all about all levels of hiker. If you are a beginner, we want you to feel welcome so you can be geared up and ready to hit the trail safely. If you are experienced, we have the gear you are looking for as well – because there is ALWAYS something new that you must have!
