Arizona Rim Country
"Like a true Nature's child
We were born to be wild." - Steppenwolf
Arizona is more than desert lands. Imagine backpacking through the shade of ponderosa pines, or wading through crystal clear streams. You may even spot a herd of elk or deer along the trail. This is the side of Arizona you may not know - but should.
The Mogollon Rim (pronounced Mug-ee-own) is a series of escarpments that define the southwestern edge of the Colorado Plateau. Let us take you backpacking through sharp cliffs and deep canyons carved through a thick ponderosa pine forest. It's a cool escape - especially during the summer months - and lakes are scattered throughout the area, which make great spots for overnight stays.
The Mogollon Rim stretches more than 200 miles from Flagstaff, AZ to southwestern New Mexico. Payson is one of the towns nearest to the Rim, and it's also earned the title as a cool outdoors escape, surrounded by wooded forests. There are numerous areas to backpack in the area.
Heading northeast, you'll find even more wooded areas in the White Mountains. We offer guided backpacking trips through thick forests of evergreens and aspens. There are both flat and steep trails, providing backpackers of nearly any experience level the opportunity to explore the cool wilderness. You'll also find crystal clear streams and lakes throughout the entire region, which reaches 9,000 feet (2,743 meters) in elevation at times.
